I started photography in my Grandpa's kitchen when I was 14. I was shown the basics of a proper camera and it's grown from there. It was all film cameras back then (I'm showing my age) so it was slow going and I had to wait weeks to get any photos back. However, that moment is such a tender memory of childhood and family and the excitement that a new exploration can bring.
It is these qualities that I set out to capture in every photo I take. Even a product shoot should tell a story, family shoots should be wonderful occasions with fun and laughter, and a special picture memory to remember it by. At weddings there are stories everywhere, stories of the past and stories of the future, all wrapped up in a day. I love shooting photos, fortunately I don't have to wait so long for the results but it still gets me excited when I know I've captured something spectacular.
Since the early days of learning the basics, I have spent many years as a student of photography, building my skills, growing my kit and always trying out new things... and not a lot has changed. There is always a different angle, a better understanding of light, the realisation that a special moment is coming. It is the wonderful blend of science and art that I love. A landscape that changes from moment to moment, a product shot that can be drastically altered by turning a light off or a wedding day that can be encapsulated by a special moment that evolved in front of my eyes. It is the harmony of Camera Skills, People Skills and Creativity that I love.
When I'm not a photographer, I'm trying to be the best dad I can be. My 5 year old daughter keeps me on my toes. I try and do the school runs when I can and plan days out to build as many memories as possible.
I also play, Coach and Referee Basketball as well as help organise the West of England Basketball Association by doing their fixtures and attending committee meetings.
I love travel and if I can blend work and pleasure then I'm double happy. I try and do a photography focussed break every year to try out other skills, I went to Iceland last year and got some amazing landscapes and I'm going to Skomer later this year to try my hand at wildlife photography.
