Photo Adventures

I love what photography brings to the party. It can be as much about documenting what you have done as giving you a reason to get out. You may want to climb a mountain and take photos to remember, you may also want to climb a mountain so you can get sunset shots. I love it when you get lost in the middle of them both.

My Photo Adventures is a place for me to b fee with my photography and my experiences. It's not work, I'm not trying to market a package or teach others, it more self indulgent than that. It is an exploration of experimentation; A search for why I started taking photos and where they can take me. Most of this website is about how my photography can help other people solve problems, learn new things and have lasting memories. This bit of the website is where I do that for myself.

The Big and the small.

The term 'adventure' can often feel like a big deal but in this place it is the adventure of photographic discovery. Which allows me a lot of freedom to explore a range of disciplines and places. From Macro photography to wide landscapes you will find it here. There will be explorations of far away lands and they will be searching for bugs in my garden. There will also be behind the scenes and monologues of what im seeing, where I think im heading and refection of how I think I did.

Why a window?

I think I create some of my most interesting photos when im not doing work. I love work, don't get me wrong, I love connecting with others and finding out what their vision is but I enjoy the freedom to fail that I get from just shooting. I am empowered by the freedom to experiment and I think it creates exciting work and raises exciting challenges. Which I why I want a public space to show, because I think it is of real alu t my process to give it purpose and a place. I hope that others take pleasure from seeing this work and I also hope they engage with it.

A lot has changed over the last few months which is the result of a lot of thought and development. I wanted to bring other areas of my work into my website and show them off to the wider world. I wanted to post about photography trips I have taken, I wanted to offer workshops and share other projects I've been working on but I didn't want it to be confusing. I needed to restructure everything so I could provide shoots in different areas of photography. This is some of my journey.

Why do some images end up as black and white?

Deciding which pictures we edit in colour and which ones to make black and white is a choice I have pondered over for a long time. I was once asked why I choose black and white for some shots and not others and I didn't have a good answer.

Viewfinder

Join me as I look through I few photos I from a recent party I shot. The party was very bright and colourful and I didn't make many pictures black and white but the ones I wanted to put by for future website or social media use were mainly the ones without colour. Which got me thinking. Why do I pick certain pictures? I also give you a bit of an overview of my thoughts when editing, what I like about certain pictures and where and when I apply masks.
